Why do we need more defibrillators?

Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of premature death.

  • In an emergency, a defibrillator can be the difference between life and death, which is why we want to ensure that this essential equipment is installed where anyone can access it and provide the crucial response in a life-threatening situation.
  • A person’s chance of surviving a cardiac arrest increases from 6% to over 70% if they are treated with a defibrillator and effective CPR is performed within the first five minutes.
  • The chances of resuscitation fall by at least 10% with every minute that defibrillation is delayed.
  • You don’t need any training to use a defibrillator in an emergency. Voice prompts tell you what to do, and the machine will deliver a shock if it is required.

For the past 2 years The Duffield Community Association (DCA) has been coordinating the DUFFIELD DEFIBRILLATORS PROJECT to ensure that ALL households in our village are within 400metres of a publicly accessible defibrillator. (The British Heart foundation recommendation)

Currently there are 6 accessible Defibrillators in the village and 2 more are funded and in progress.

A further two Defibrillators will provide coverage throughout Duffield.

We don’t have our normal channels for fundraising such as the Carnival, so we have launched this appeal to purchase and install defibrillators to complete the coverage of the whole village.
